Eye Testing: How often should I get my eyes tested?
Your Optometrist will generally recommend an eye test once every two years,
which typically includes a check for changes in your prescription and for any
diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and macular degeneration.
For contact lens wearers, yearly checkup is usually recommended. Your Optometrist
may also prescribe new contact lenses that better suit your needs as they become
available.
People with existing eye conditions may be advised to undergo more frequent
checkups, which may be anywhere between 3-6 months.
The key thing is, you must not dismiss regular check-ups and wait until you need
new glasses before you have your eyes checked. Some diseases like glaucoma
have no early signs or symptoms. Often, by the time changes in vision are noticed,
irreversible damage might have already occurred.
